My experiences in the journey to Gangtok by road

I am Anuja, basically from Katihar, Bihar. I with my family have been planned to visit Gangtok last month. As I already have heard about the beauty of this place by some of my friends who already has visited there. I talked to my mom and dad and share my plan to visit Gangtok with them. They happily got ready. And without any delay I went through Google search and booked ticket for my mom, dad, my two younger brothers and two sisters along with me. A happy journey is all about surrounded with close friends or loving family. If you want to travel then you should choose happy, cool and energetic people to come with you.

Best Time to Go to Gangtok:

Best time to go to Gangtok

Gangtok is a hill station, which is generally becomes more colder during winter so if you plan to go there in winter then it’s too cold to stay there; we went in the month of April which is the best time according to me and also my mom and I can’t bear too much cold.

Here, How the Journey Begins:

Here how the journey begins

As we live in Katihar, Bihar, gangtok is little far for us. As I booked our ticket in advance from a well known travel agency Aayush Holidays, we first took a train for NJP, which is a 4hrs run from Katihar and there are number of trains available from Katihar to NJP. We came to NJP by 12pm. Later from NJP railway junction our already booked innova from Aayush Holidays was present outside the station and we rush to the car which takes us to Siliguri, we had our delicious lunch there in Siliguri. My brother just loved it. After taking lunch we moved for forwarded journey. The travel agency provided us a well maintained luxurious ac car with friendly and helping driver, who was perfect in driving. NJP to Gangtok taxi fare is almost Rs 4000. It takes around 5 hrs to reach Gangtok from NJP. NJP to Gangtok distance is about 120.2 km via NH10. It was a beautiful evening with loving family members on beautiful way, the way from Siliguri to Gangtok was all beautiful, there were a lot of Tea gardens and mountains which was very much newer to us as we never saw mountains and tea gardens closely.

Fun at Tea Garden:

We all were damn happy to saw the tea gardens and big mountains, so we asked the driver to stop the car as we had to take a glance of it and do photography there.  We poses madly and took a lot of pictures there, also we talked to women’s plucking tea leafs about their lifestyle, and  my brothers were trying to climb up the mountains for taking pictures, which was impossible to them. After taking pictures and all we went back to the car and moved forward.

Did Enjoy Snacks:

Did enjoy snacks

Few kms ahead in the Kalimpong road we found many restaurants and small food and tea stalls. My mom wanted to had some tea as we felt little hungry by seeing such food stalls. We asked the driver to stop the car again to have some snacks and tea. Driver was so friendly so that he suggested us not to take tea there and he said I will take you to some other tea stall which will serve you the best Darjeeling tea. My dad is a tea lover and he said ok to him. Later the driver stopped the car at the tea stall he was talking about. The driver asked the tea stall owner to serve the best tea as my passengers are great tea lover. They served really good flavored tea. We eaten Momo’s and chicken chowmin there which was too delicious, thanks to the driver because of him we got to know about that stall. Later, we saw Teesta River on the way which was flowing beautifully.  There were many places with beautiful views about which driver told us and he genuinely stops the car to show us the beautiful view places. We found monkeys there on the way and also many small monasteries were present there on the way to Gangtok. At many places we came outside of the car and did enjoy by clicking pictures and by seeing beautiful views.

Finally, we reached Gangtok at around 10pm. We saw so many beautiful places there. Overall Gangtok sightseeing places we visited in Gangtok are Hanuman Tak, Saramsa garden, Do Drul Chorten, Enchey Monastery, Rumtek Monastery, Tashiding Monastery, Tsomgo Lake, Bakthang waterfall and Gurudongar Lak. We came back home happily and safely after the tour has ended.
